Trashing politicians

Seeing posters get defaced all over Buenos Aires is not very surprising, but can sometimes be, surprisingly, funny. The best poster that was dando vueltas on the internet was this one of Hermes Binner. As you may well know, Bieber fever reached Argentina just last week. It’s great to see that it has also penetrated the political media as well. Hermes should really consider taking on the new look. It suits him.

All of the presidential candidates were at one point in their careers “misrepresented” in the media. I just found this hilarious poster of Elisa Carrío the other day! Sad thing is, she does look much cuter and more tame in the poster. I think the missing leader will be lost forever after her crushing defeat from last sunday.

Speaking of people that committed political suicide, Ricardo Alfonsín’s portrait here is fantastic. Just yesterday a local told me how she didn’t vote for Alfonsín because he’s a político viejo, an “old-style politician.” Too bad he doesn’t normally dress like one, because he is smokin’ in this photo (sorry its pixelated).

Now, in my neighborhood (Congreso), Cris is generally respected. And virtually none of her posters are marked. May be some black teeth once in awhile, but nothing too serious or creative. But, I stumbled upon this fabulous poster while researching for defaced Cris posters that reads Por el amor a la Argentina, no votamos a la MonarKia from 2007 (“For the love of Argentina, let’s not vote for the monarKy”). Cris makes a good queen but Néstor is the one that really makes the poster. I think its witty and the photo-shopping is really quality.

The winner of the media-defacing victims though, is current (reelected this past July) Mayor of Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri. His posters were the most creatively manipulated and just plain funny. I call him Mau. During elections for mayor in Buenos Aires, in every poster Mau either had a Hitler mustache, or a clown nose. The clown nose was okay, but I must say, the Hitler mustache really suited Mau (sorry I have no example of that winner). Then, Mau-haters took it to the next level. This poster below, is really a product of creativity and dedication. It sticks to theme, is simple and really a fab work of art.

Well, as many of you may know, Argentinos, and more specifically porteños are huge fans of the Simpsons. Really huge fans. So then the Macri-Filmus (Daniel Filmus was the runner-up in the first round of elections for mayor for BA for the Frente Para la Victoria) war began, Simpsons-style.

Mau as Mr. Burns is so fitting. Not that I detest Mau—some of his policies and initiatives are okay. Besides the BA cultural agenda is sort of bomb. But you can’t deny that he is a perfect Mr. Burns. Filmus’ Simpsons poster is also quite good.

Sadly, Filmus lost in the second-round. Not very surprising. Mau’s victory was expected, he was only 3 points short of avoiding a first-round victory. But thanks to Filmus’ loss, we are able to enjoy the troll face-themed Filmus edition online. I know there are some internet geek-freaks out there who are rolling around laughing while reading this. I know you’re out there. You’re welcome.

I know I am being sort of obsessive with the whole Mau-in-the-media thing, but there were so many gems during that campaign. So just one last thing: the condom wrapper. First of all, because the normal condom brand is called “Prime” and adding the “Re” makes it Reprime, repress (or he represses). Adding to the hilarity is the subtitle, el forro de Macri—Macri’s condom. Funny because forro means condom as well as asshole. Great idea.

And that is all folks! If you want to share any other great posters you’ve been seeing around town, feel free to comment or email, and I shall post away!
