Trashing politicians

Seeing posters get defaced all over Buenos Aires is not very surprising, but can sometimes be, surprisingly, funny. The best poster that was dando vueltas on the internet was this one of Hermes Binner. As you may well know, Bieber fever reached Argentina just last week. It’s great to see that it has also penetrated the political media as well. Hermes should really consider taking on the new look. It suits him.

Oops she did it again

Cris won, yes yes oh yay, what’s new. As my lovely ex-co-worker used to say, NEXT! There are a few things that are notables from the elections though.

Fun election facts:

  • Cris received the largest amount of votes since Argentina’s return to democracy in 1983 (holy moly that is like 28 years ago!)
  • Her victory is the third-largest of all time in Argentina, following Hipólito Irigoyen in 1928 and Juan Perón in 1946, 1951, and 1973
  • Twenty-three of the 24 provinces voted for Cris (San Luis voted for its governor, Alberto Rodríguez Saá)
  • Of the 22 provinces that renewed their governors, all but three have Kirchnerist or K-allies as governors
  • The province with the highest number of votes for Cris was Santiago del Estero, with 82.01%
  • Eleven of the 24 provinces voted over 65% for Cris
  • The governor who received the highest number of votes this electoral season was that of Misiones Province, Maurice Fabian Closs with 75%

The Last Push

The city of Buenos Aires is (hardly) buzzing with excitement: elections are this Sunday. Well, I am excited anyway. All campaigns end today and that means no more political debates—though there were hardly any, or television appearances, speeches or public rallies. Cris ended her campaign at a big event in the Teatro Coliseo yesterday as the only speaker, the center of attention. Everyone is also closing up shop. Not surprisingly, candidates are quietly slipping off into the background, instead of making a big fuss.

Gather ’round, its election time

We are now in October, which means two things: first, it’s been a month since I started this blog (happy anniversary to me!) and second, elections are only 20 days away! I have some useful information on my election page, but I haven’t actually posted anything about it, and I think it’s about time. Let’s look at polls—although it’s a bit useless since Cristina is going to win.

Go on…
